Description
Main Ingredients
Lignosus rhinocerus, Cordyceps militaris, Radix et Rhizoma Asteris, Flos Farfarae
Formulation Basis
Lignosus rhinoceros, the tiger milk mushroom, is widely used in traditional medicine among the natives of Malaysia for the relief of cough, cold, sinusitis and respiratory symptoms. Recent studies have shown that the tiger milk mushroom has immunomodulatory, antioxidative, antibacterial, anti-type A influenza, anti-inflammatory and other pharmacological effects. It is also found to reduce symptoms in the respiratory system and relieve acute asthma, thereby helping support healthy immune and lung function, in conjunction with Cordyceps militaris.
Cordyceps has a long history of medicinal use as a premium tonic and is well known for its lung-supplementing and kidney-boosting properties. Cultivated Cordyceps militaris is rich in cordycepin and cordycepic acid, and is used in Chinese Medicine to supplement the lung, boost the kidney, relieve cough and calm panting. Radix et Rhizoma Asteris (Zi Wan) and Flos Farfarae (Kuan Dong Hua) are cough-relieving herbs in Chinese Medicine, where they share the common properties of being warm but not resulting in dryness, able to resolve phlegm and nourish the lung. Hence, the two herbs are suitable for use in different types of coughs, no matter if it is cold or heat in nature, excess or deficiency in nature, or the duration of illness. In addition, the two herbs are commonly used as a medicinal pair in Chinese Medicine formulae where the synergistic effect of the herbs increases the cough-relieving and phlegm-resolving effects. Modern research has found that the combination of Zi Wan and Kuan Dong Hua significantly improves anti-inflammatory and expectorant effects.
This formula targets the two different mechanisms resulting to cough: the Chinese Medicine mechanism of the lung failing to diffuse, and the pathological changes
of the inflammation in the airway. Through relieving cough, resolving phlegm, reducing inflammation and symptoms in the lungs, it tackles cough resulting in post-infection conditions that affects the diffusion of the lung.
